My response here is that in every instance these programs could have been programmed with a load-all instead. Faster response times, easier to write, and so much is handled for you. Lots of keywords and indicators just plain disappear. (I base that assertion on the basis that apparently the current system never bumps it head against the 9999 limit.)

Its also clear there is little to be gained by going back and changing what is in place and accepted. Still, I like <80 line DSPF and <200 line RPG programs.

This loads additional pages as you page down. But unless I've lost my
mind, the system handles paging up and down within already loaded data.
After I've hit the bottom of the source file and the true end of data for
the subfile, I used the mouse to scroll back up by clicking on the scroll
bar. From that point on, I was "hosed" (don't you love that technical
term?) trying to Page Down. Like I said, more investigation would be
needed and since I've got more pressing work to do the investigation will
have to wait.
