I thought he had two expansion units, not one.
Would another option, for performance and redundancy, place 1 card of the pair in the CEC and the 2nd card of the pair in the expansion unit.

I wouldn't bother changing. All 6 slots are fed by C10 in the CEC so you gain nothing with this proposed change.
