We already have a forms package. It's just overkill to use when you just have to add a barcode to an existing spooled file.

I don't think any of the vendors are providing inaccurate info.

AFP utilities are going away, but core function will still work.

But really, how long do you want to continue to perpetuate the old way of doing forms ?

Wait until you hire twenty-thirty year old form developers.

They will say: AFP is like the "green screen" of form design.

Bang out an overlay and write a custom RPG program for each form -or- visually design a form over a spool file or database query and go live.

The path to modernization seems clear.

And yes the sky is falling 😊

Other sources of information might include those peddling their products as an alternative. But I suspect you'll get the Chicken Little approach from them. Hey, they gotta feed their children.
