Rob,

If you have a default LPAR on a new Power System and the the LAN adapter on the right slot you can force the IP from the PC to the port, as long as I remember. It uses BOOTP protocol.

This information lives, as you mention, on the FSP.

If you ordered a new system with IBM i, no pre-installed OS, you use your LAN Console PC to force this IP and the software waits for a response when you power on the server.

You place the LIC DVD on the tray and the system IPL to the installation system. Can't be sure, but when the system reach the B6004016 starts a console search and then continues to the LIC install.

If you need to reset this IP on the first port on the LAN adapter you just need to power down and disconnect power cables. Then start the LAN Console software with the right cable to the right port, press the button and voilâ.

Some of these things will NOT be reset by loading from scratch using CD's.
These are stored in a layer even below that. Basically in non volatile
firmware vs any place on disk. Think of this: How do you connect a lan
console or HMC before you even install disk drives?
