Pete is right, for the HMC that can be a serious IED you step on. It will
hurt

If the HMC version on the latptop is say 8.8.6 which is the highest version
with the classic interface, and you connect to the systems the FSP will
upgrade to communicate with that level. It will then fail to connect with
any other version. So now your current HMC has to be upgraded to 8.8.6
before you try and connect to the POWER system again. If you don't have
an HMC that you can load 8.8.6 on (many cannot) then you are proverbially
(explicative deleted) .

At least for a field technician a Laptop-HMC is a good idea but for data
centre operations two (at least) local HMC (physical or virtual) is a
must...

In former times we had portable twinax devices in the car.

Thanks for the feedback, Larry. Awhile back I learned of an IBM'er
that used their laptop for vHMC purposes when on-site with customers
that had a self-managed IBM i. Couple the vHMC-on-laptop with the
multiple HMC
support(n1) and it could make for some interesting opportunities.
