While it is important to know which versions of Java are supported on which releases of the OS, equally important is knowing what versions your applications are using. I always use the WRKJVMJOB command when doing an upgrade so that I can see the real versions the people are using, and not what they *think* they are using, which is usually incorrect.

Somewhere I've read where it says what release defaults to what level of Java. It even had things like "if this one is installed then..." kind of stuff.
