No, I phrased this right. The vendor has no machine with which to test

Ahh! I see. Well, any ISV should be able to get a temporary LPAR for free
for a few days at a tiem using what was once called Virtual Loaner Program
(now it's Power Development Platform or PDP). I agree, no excuse to not
test on new OS versions.

How soon did you have a machine running IBM i 7.3?

I think it was 2 days after V7R3 was available. I ordered my new Power 8
and while it was being put together V7R3 was announced. I asked if they
could put that on instead of V7R2, they said no.

So, the first thing I did when I got it was get it running and install
V7R3. The only thing I messed up on was not installing the latest and
greatest ACS, so my TCPIP terminal didn't work. But, I got everything
fixed with help from this list. Wasn't THAT bad.

I liken it to exporting and installing CAs. I do it for customers many
times a week so it's like second nature. But explain to someone how to do
it and it's overwhelming for only needing to do it once every few years.
I feel the same with OS upgrades...

Maybe that says more about the OS upgrade path than my skills as an
operator.. <tic>

Did you participate in IBM's Early Ship Program?

No.

Recently we had an ISV on here asking where they could find information on
IBM i 7.3. And it's been GA since April of 2016.

Wasn't me. ;) Before getting my power 8 box I took great advantage of the
Virtual Loaner program, and not just for testing the latest OS version.
Its a great service they provide to ISVs.
