That is honestly a pretty sad statement. I would expect that a vendor of a reputable product that is expecting to sell their software on IBM i would not require more than two years from the public release to finally support a release!

This is especially true given that they could be in partner programs that give them much earlier access to the software.

Especially in the 3rd party market there is often competition which likely already has supported the new releases!

I understand this viewpoint, but I also understand another viewpoint: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is what our company uses to run 80% of our Enterprise needs. It can use multiple databases, web servers, clients and portals. The enterprise server for the latest release (9.1.5.0) can run on:
HP-UX Itanium version 11.31
IBM AIX on Power versions 7.1 and 6.1
Linux x86-64 six different versions, including Red Hat and Oracle
Windows x64, four different versions
Solaris versions 11 and 10
IBM i on Power versions 7.2, 7.1 and 6.1

But the tax software most often used by EnterpriseOne, Vertex, is only certified for V7R1.

At this point, the IBM iSeries is a replaceable commodity item. EnterpriseOne is not.

EnterpriseOne = dog. IBM iSeries = tail.

Will I regret moving from the iSeries? Absolutely. Will I miss Robot Schedule and CL capabilities? Absolutely. Will I fight the change as long as possible? Absolutely. Will I win indefinitely? I doubt it. At this point IBM needs to chase JD Edwards, JD Edwards doesn't need to chase the AS400/iSeries/I.

*Spare me any notes on the correct name for the box. When IBM marketing chooses a name that doesn't keep autocorrecting into something else, I'll use it.
