Scan and replace the input variable to replace any single quote with a
double quote.
I know you are on V6R1 so %ScanRpl is not available? You will need to
%scan the input value for a quote and then update the quote to a
double-quote.
If you expect multiple single quotes in the input string then you will want
to loop throught the entire length of the string.

Thanks Paul.
How would I implement that in a program where the value is a variable input
from a screen?

How about:
WHERE XXNAME LIKE '%DAVE''S%'

You are looking for the escape keyword/function.

Subject: SQL Select where database value contains an apostrophe

V6R1
I have a file containing names that have an apostrophe in them
(Dave's, O'Neils..etc). I need to be able to select these records
using LIKE in the WHERE section. I have tried using double quotes
(") to surround the search value (WHERE XXNAME LIKE "%DAVE'S%", but
SQL treats the value as a field name and cant find it.

All suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
