The problem I have with PASE is the thought that one can easily migrate
applications from other platforms to IBM i and run them in PASE. Often
the applications aren't up to par.
When IBM first came out with Domino for IBM i they really tailored it for
IBM i instead of just a PASE hack. They sold boxes like hotcakes.
IBM's first version of TSM performed acceptably. Their next version was a
PASE hack. It used PASE based tape APIs which performed horribly. It was
so bad they abandoned the platform and said to run it on AIX or Linux if
you run it on Power equipment. Sure, marketing had something to do with
it also as the guy who was in charge of IBM i marketing went to TSM
marketing and he hated IBM i so bad. That coincided with the same time.
