That's a easy way of looking at it. But it's not really even close to
correct as I understand it.
I don't recall all the details, nor where I picked them up (perhaps the
Fortress book). But as I understand it, PASE is neither separate nor
distinct from IBM i.

support as every other i5/OS application."
I look at it this way, there are (at least) 4 environments on my IBM i
OPM - runs Original Program Model programs
EPM - runs Extended Program Model programs
ILE - runs Integrated Language Environment programs
PASE - runs AIX programs
Assuming EPM is still valid...you apparently can't get the compilers
anymore. But the STREPMENV command is still there in v7.2 so I assume EPM
programs still work.
IBM is of course pushing folks toward ILE and PASE as opposed to OPM or EPM.
I think you're doing yourself a disservice by dismissing PASE applications.
