Pete's right. There happen to be a number of hardware (read: drivers and
microcode/firmware) PTFs that have been updated even recently. You never
know when one's going to bite. In my case I had to update the firmware on
my Fibre cards before moving them to the P8. (VIOS runs them) IBM i will
update those for you so I'd get all the newest stuff, apply perm, and go!

Jim,
I wouldn't say that TR9 is the min for Power8, it might be for a
card or two that you have installed in the Power8. In any case, I would
always upgrade the older machine to the latest cumulative, Technology
refresh, and hipers. Then make sure they are perm applied if you are going
to load these on the Power8 (since the load on the P8 will IPL on the
A-side). You aren't on the latest Cumulative, nor the latest TR. I would
imagine you aren't on the latest hipers either.

Need to understand requirements of upgrade from a Power 7+ at V7r1 (TR10 )
to Power 8 hardware.
I see that TR9 is the minimum required for Power 8.
Current cume level is 15142.
Is there any more to it than that?
No hmc (if it matters).
Power 8 ordered with option to restore from prev system.
