Hi, and thank you Kirk for your response !

We are still in a discovery phase of AS/400 systems. One of us is a COBOL developer on these systems but we are not familiar with AS/400 administration. I have read a few informations about the load source drive.

Because our FC5074 didn’t boot up properly the first time we connected everything, we suppose that the drives appearing unknown are the ones inside the extension but we are not sure (there are 15 drives in the FC5074 and 12 in the AS/400, and DST shows 10 unknown and 2 failed drives).
What you suggest is the solution we wanted to apply. We have to locate the load source drives, remove the others, disconnect the FC5074 because we are not planning to use it, put identical drives in the machines and build a new raid form them but we want to be sure we are not removing a load source drive.

For the OS CDs, the former owner was a company and the IT team explained us that the machine was up and running V4R3 or V5R2 when they stopped it 5 years ago (after they moved to Oracle).

When they gave us the machine, it was very clear for them that the machine was running, but they told us they didn’t found the documentation and installation medias which go with. So if the machine contain the license, we should have the right to run the same OS, isn’t it ?

We would like to make this AS/400 working again for educational use (we wont make business with it, just learn administration, write programs for it, etc.).

So if i am correct for the license, i should be able to install the OS but i need to find the CDs and it seems to be not available for download.

Am i correct, and is there a way to do ?

Thank you again !
Tom

Unknown a lot of times means more than 1 disk has failed in a RAID5 set...
So that data is gone. AS you probably know that means the OS is gone. But
it appears you are able to boot to DST so the loadsource and its RAID is
intact. Without the I_BASE CD I would from DST clear the ASP and delete all
the drives from the ASP. I would then init all the unknowns to see what
will or won't init. Fix or remove the bad drives and build your raid sets.

Obtaining the OS CDs it a touching subject. You may or may not have the
legal right to put an OS on the system....
