I've also had that Rob. That is usually when a vendor is trying to replace a similar solution you have inhouse. I've also had where they 'bake' the first year in purchase price then say it's free, and most of the time, they just charge you starting first year also.

In your experience, when do you usually have to start paying for software
maintenance for non-IBM software?
I'm thinking, 12 months after purchase is standard.
Every heard of maint charges starting right after purchase? Particularly
with a complex piece of software, ie. complete ERP system, whose
implementation will take months?
