Jon,
That would work.
My logicals have always been used for defining the data, did not think
about a logical for redefining fields, but that would be a great solution
for me.

I have no familiarity with the OLE driver but if all else fails you should
be able to access the table via a logical that redefined the packed field
as zoned.
