Not all zip file compressors are created equal, and I would expect (but
never tested) that jar does not create the smallest possible zip binaries.
It probably has the advantage of being the most likely thing to be
installed on an IBM i that can create zip files.
If you want to make the smallest zip files possible, 7zip is the way to go.
7zip can make regular zip files that windows and OSX have built in support
for opening as well as its own 7z format. There are AIX binaries here
