Scott,

It concerns me that you view me as an opponent. I view you as an IBM i
champion, and I appreciate what you've done for the platform. I've
recommended your writings and products in a lot of settings. I believe our
interests are more aligned than you give credit for.

I don't believe I have ever put you down, except perhaps in this discussion
where I've pointed out your short fuse when it comes to protecting Profound
UI. I might add that you've been attributing ideas and words to me which
are not mine, apparently to make me look bad. Shows you're human.

I'd like to clear up a misunderstanding. I'm not sure if it's on my part or
yours. I've made several references to the Profound UI "applet", or
"client", which you object to. I want to ensure that we're referring to the
same thing:

https://www.profoundlogic.com/profoundui/proddata/js/runtime.js

Does that code have a name? It's obviously a key component of the Profound
UI architecture. The web site names the PUI Visual Designer and RPG Open
Access Handler. But what would you call, and characterize that browser
"runtime"?

You call that a framework? Your comparisons to JQuery and ExtJS don't fit.
The code is obfuscated, compressed, and does NOT expose an API for
developers.

That component interprets data streams like the following and transforms
them into something browsers can render:

{"id":"OutputField1","field type":"output
field","value":{"fieldName":"Name","dataLength":"25","trimLeading":"false","trimTrailing":"true","dataType":"char","formatting":"Text","textTransform":"none","designValue":"[Name]"},"left":"420px","top":"120px","font
size":"30px","layout":"Layout1","container":"1"},

You don't see how similar that is to a terminal emulator?

The comparison makes complete sense. It's a key to understanding how you
can replace a 5250 display file with a Visual Designer display file, and
generate GUI displays with only minor code changes to a traditional RPG
application.

To me, that's the main selling point of PUI. The paradigm is Soooo
comparable to 5250. It's made for developers who are stepped in that
paradigm. Why hide that?

You should stop comparing PUI to frameworks like JQuery and ExtJS.
Otherwise your prospects will start asking why the difference in price? One
of my associates works for a large development shop which received a $100K
estimate for PUI.

You asked if I worked with one of your competitors. Who do you view as
competitors? Look Software? ASNA? BCD? Other companies who make
screen-scrapers and Open Access handlers? I view those as your direct
competitors. I would tend to recommend PUI over them.

With regards,

Nathan.
