Granted, that's just one sentence out of a long message.
What I personally take away from Nathan's writings (in general, not
only in that thread) is that he espouses a "clean break" philosophy to
modernization, whereas he views Profound as a "stepping stone"
technology.
Now, I get that Profound lets you do "fully modern" things. I really
do. People who have a negative view of stepping stones (and that's not
everyone, by a long shot!) tend to focus on the lower steps and either
ignore or remain unaware that there are further steps up the staircase
within the same product or technology.
It's classic pragmatists versus revolutionaries here.
