From the vendor's perspective they've probably done extensive testing and
it works for them.
If you add any extensions to their software you do so at your own peril.

I don't agree with it, but it is an opinion.

There's a lot of things I disagree with about many vendor packages but
they get the job done.
Some things I disagree with:
- No journalling by default
- No commitment control
- No referential integrity
- No check constraints
- No primary keys on tables

These all concern me.

From a higher level perspective I much prefer a vendor who actively
participates in IBM's Early Ship Program and is ready to run on the latest
release on the date of announcement of a new release or, at the latest,
date of General Availability. This means a LOT more to me than support of
V3R2 onward to 6.1 and some weak statement that they have a customer or
two that's running it on something higher but that's at your own peril.
