As an example of what Roberto is saying is our email system (Notes/Domino)
sends out an email to a yahoo account. We paid yahoo a little extra to be
able to do stuff like forwarding. That email leaves yahoo and comes into
Notes. The Domino agent generates the email, sends it out and monitors a
Domino account for it's receipt. If it doesn't happen in a timely fashion
than our support is alerted.
It not only tests internet connectivity but it checks true sending and
receiving of email and all that entails.
