Ideally you get a system like BRMS that moves these tapes around for you.
Failing that you take that Tape drive out of the "cones of silence" subnet
and put it where you can get to it from any browser within your company
(or vpn). Here I can get to TAPGRT01 (in Garrett Indiana) or TAPKVL01 (in
Kendallville Indiana) from my laptop browser.
Perhaps you are saying that there is no PC near the tape drive. There is
an HMC near it though. Hmm. Does a browser on your mobile device work?
Funny thing is, that inspired me to try it for the first time. Worked
great! Android Galaxy S4. I had to type in
TAPKVL01.ourlocalname.DEKKO.COM because otherwise Google would go out and
surf the net for TAPKVL01 (and found a lot of hits on this list).
