Jerry,

If you are applying just the PTFs listed for the upgrade, you can do an *IMMDLY on the Apply PTF command, if you are doing a cumulative or Hiper with it, then I would let everything load with an IPL. In either case, you will need to IPL.

Sometime, before the upgrade, I always like to Perm apply all my PTFs, which would require another IPL.

As for the extra disks, you can add them to the Image Catalogue and then select those LPPs which you have a license for or are products that don't require a license.

Glad my presentation was helpful to you, you made my day :)

Pete

Subject: Upgrade to 7.1 TR10 from 5.4

Hi All,

I have not done much with PTF's for a bazillion years so please forgive my naivety in asking.

I am following Pete Massiello's upgrade doc. It is very helpful.
I can only go the 7.1 because of the box we are on.

Following the APAR doc II 14482, I have the PTF's loaded that are missing and are in Save file only.
Can these be applied during the day or do I need to apply when everyone is off?
What is the correct way of applying them?

I am IPL'ing this weekend. There are also many PTF's at Temporarily applied.
Do they need to be Perm before I do the upgrade?

I want all PTF's ready so the IPL will finish them all.

Are there any obscure products I should also install during the upgrade?
I want to play with PHP when done. I have PASE and all Java selected.

There are DVD's that have F_MULTI_NLV.
They are Zend Community Server Edition for I (5639-ZC1), DB2 Web Query (5733-WQX) and Open Source Solutions (5733-OPS) All of these are loaded into the image catalog.

Thanks for all guidance!!
