Actually, you should get a python REPL where you can enter python code one
line at a time similar to the shell prompt when you run PASE. I've typed
python -v many a time on wondows and linux when I meant -V and ended up in
the REPL. just typte quit() if that's the case.

Sure, but the page says to use

python3 -version

And that won't work with standard Python.
