Rob,
..just a brief point - IBM has always had to balance where the development
$$ go, and it's been a business decision as to when they want to compete in
the software tools area (like Web Query). We may not think it was the right
decision, but we look at it from our business, not the business of IBM.
What kept the midrange around so long was the vendors and products. Even
when IBM had some interesting tools, for a variety of reasons some were made
external to IBM, like TAATOOLS and Easy400. However, the printing division
within IBM (Infoprint, the transform services, and other parts), has always
been a football kicked around.

Btw - I'm actually very happy they did the RUNSQL, and had no issues with
Select. Since the command is for both interactive and batch, it has to put
the result set somewhere. I can do anything I want with the results.
RUNSQL +
SQL(' -
CREATE TABLE QTEMP.T1 AS (SELECT * FROM +
bncfil.webaclogp WHERE WLTEXT like ''%bingb%'' +
and wltext not like ''%207.46.13%'' and +
wltext not like ''%157.55.39%'') with +
data') COMMIT(*NONE) NAMING(*SQL)

3 - Fear of upsetting vendors who peddle their own solution?
4 - Possible risk of coming head to head with an alternative. The best way
to explain what I'm saying here is to give an sql example. Many people had
their own RUNSQL command. Then IBM came out with their own. Of course, with
different parameter names, options, and no ability to do a simple select.
I'm sure the people who had to scramble to work around that don't want to go
through that again.
