My company have some IBM i systems running on some power7 and power6 boxes, currently all in 6.1 OS version.

We are considering to consolidate all lpars on a power8 box virtualizing the power8 box using VIOS and using external disk.

This kinf of virtualized configuration well known for us since we have it running in other countries but all of them are with IBM storages(v7000), Since we have an VNX5000 on our location would be great to use it to virtualize disks to VIO and them to IBM i lpars, does anyone know if that works?

I havent found a compatibility matrix that shows IBM i and VNX5000 as an valid configuration but since we would have VIO on the middle of them can I consider the compatibility between VNX500 and VIO once its the OS that is actually being attached to the LUNs?

any thoughts and ideas will be very appreciated

thanks
