You may also have to buy some software from EMC to make it work. Last time
I checked for one of my customers that was a very pricey option, and they
opted to use IBM storage instead rather than pay that amount to EMC.
You'll also avoid the two vendor dueling when something goes wrong. That
way IBM has to fix it, period.

You'll need to check with EMC for support statements. It is not good enough
to assume everything behind VIOS is supported for IBM i.

subject: IBM i , VIOS and VNX5000, will that work?
My company have some IBM i systems running on some power7 and power6
boxes, currently all in 6.1 OS version.
We are considering to consolidate all lpars on a power8 box virtualizing
the power8 box using VIOS and using external disk.
This kinf of virtualized configuration well known for us since we have it
running in other countries but all of them are with IBM storages(v7000),
Since we have an VNX5000 on our location would be great to use it to
virtualize disks to VIO and them to IBM i lpars, does anyone know if that
works?
I havent found a compatibility matrix that shows IBM i and VNX5000 as an
valid configuration but since we would have VIO on the middle of them can
I consider the compatibility between VNX500 and VIO once its the OS that
is actually being attached to the LUNs?
any thoughts and ideas will be very appreciated
thanks
Altino
