I just reread the question .... If you're using file backed
VSCSI for things other than optical, those will be retained.

I'd need to try this method when there are images in the optical
repository, but I believe those are not retained.

VMLibrary, file-backed devices (i've seen them in production
best practices not-withstanding)...


Roberto, nothing is saved from the original VIOS except the
mappings for SEA, VSCSI, and NPIV.

We don't use virtual optical from our VIOS LPARs.

Instead of setting up a NIM server for installing AIX and
VIOS,
I use the media repository functions from the HMC and then we
have an IBM i LPAR for network install for i.
