I agree that one should avoid the CPYSPLF approach. I've been burned by
it, especially when supporting different systems on different releases.
Every, and I mean 'every', Memo To Users for each new release warns you
that they have changed printer outputs. Currently I have a design change
request pending to change yet another one. It's one where IBM still
displays disk space in MB. On a system with over 9TB you see only plus
signs. To me, MB is but a rounding error. I'll sacrifice that 0.0001%
accuracy in order to eliminate seeing only plus signs.

You've been informed of two different API's to list spool files. One
lists them all and then you read that list. It's a little simpler. The
other starts listing them but you can process the list while it's still
generating the list. This has an advantage if it takes a long time to
generate the list. It allows you to start processing entries before
waiting for the whole completion.
