I have an EDI system that keeps sending messages to a DataQueue.
What happens if our IBM i operator starts System IPL, when there is
unprocessed data sitting in our Data Queue ?
Do I lose the data or does it stay ?
As a general response, from the perspective of the OS, the messages
on a Data Queue *persist* spanning IPLs.
Yet the actual effect depends, both on the perspective [the OS, the
application, or even a third party] and the specifics of any particular
scenario for how each party handles their part of the messaging, esp.
with regard to handling-of\recovering-from interruptions.
However if the Data Queue (DTAQ) object is journaled, then the
potential for loss of messages that were previously enqueued can be
mitigated significantly. The journal provides protection for the data
and the logged data is available for reference\use by the application.
