Your Reference to Data Queue,
If you're referring to "user data queues" those jobs will still be in the q after an IPL.
If you referring to some other data queue, then I'm not sure.

There are IPL options, which by default, do NOT clear output and/or data queues

IPL Options

This is a question that has been asked before (post in 2013).... and not have a definitive answer from existing IBM docs - perhaps (Chuck or Larry or
Pete) others know for sure.
This doc is about various methods of shutdown (PWRDWNSYS and Control Panel) and only says *IMMED is an immed end to all processes, whereas cntrld is a controlled end and any job smart enough to react to that will, but if the cntrld time expires it becomes *immed.

Even if disk cache not flushed - that's what cache batteries are for??

Since cache size increased my standard has been controlled end of subsystems
to restricted state, followed by PWRDWNSYS *CNTRLD 300 seconds for small
systems & 600 seconds for larger, but that's just a guess/estimation on my part.

All data that is in cache, isn't that always flushed to disk on PWRDWNSYS?

We have very active edi, do a careful shutdown of apps, then

flush the cache to disk.

I have an EDI system that keeps sending messages to a DataQueue.

What happens if our IBM i operator starts System IPL, when there is
unprocessed data sitting in our Data Queue ?

Do I loose the data or does it stay ?
