Kevin,
The most likely cause is the LAN console device was disabled due to multiple
rejected attempts to connect. (The user profile might also be disabled)
The hard boot resets the device and when it comes up into LIC (C600xxxx)
then it will connect.
Keep in mind we are discussing devices and profiles that are in DST/SST
(down in the LIC) not at the IBM i level.
V7R1 will allow a sufficiently high authority DST/SST profile to sign on and
re-enable the device and profile. That might be easier than the (65+21)
routine, which on the worst day is a real pain making the day less
better......(guaranteed to be messed up at least three times every time you
try it, and every time it's messed up, start over)
One other thought, check the console device in IBM i, and make sure it's set
to vary on at IPL. I know it's a long shot but I have seen it set the other
way..

Thanks Ted...
Any idea what causes this..it's been working fine for a while - then it
would only fire up after a hard re-boot.
Now it won't fire up at all..
Thanks again..

This can be a pain, I wonder why IBM couldn't have included this
functionality in the ASMI but anyway you need to follow this procedure,

subject: Lan Console will not fire up
Hi,
I have a LAN console plugged into an 8203-E4A at 7.1..
It works OK until we re-boot the system then the console will not come up on
the PC.....I also cannot ping the adapter..
Only a power off - then a restart will fire up the card..
What have I missed...
Thanks
Kevin
