I can verify that. I have a SAS LTO4 running and it only functions as a
tape device with VIOS. It must be in sequential mode. Very disappointing
actually.

Sue, you mean that when using SAS Libraries (like a TS2900 or
3100) thru VIOS only the tape is visible, right? Because if i use
direct attach i can use the media changer without problems (i try to
clarify this point since i spent a good while searching for that
specific fact).
I have never been able to get my grubby mitts on a SAS tape library. With
this in mind, everything I've been told is the device must be set to
sequential mode in order to be virtualized using the VSCSI support rolled
out in IVM, VIOS, and IBM i.
If this is documented anywhere, I would expect to find it in the IBM i
Technology Updates wiki pages at developerWorks.
