For some past file size issues with QFileSvr.400 that may still be in effect for shops running obsolete versions of the OS like V5R4, and for someone who differs with Larry on the speed ratings see:
http://www.rpgiv.info/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=287

For 'quick and dirty' I may still use QNTC but mainly I've switched over to NFS.

One reason is QNTC has some really weird issues with share names. If some clown creates a share name with more than ?11? characters and even if that is not the share you are accessing, simply the existence of it may break communications to other shares from IBM i, IBM z, etc. IBM documented.

NFS is platform independent. I can have Domino servers running on IBM i, Windows and Linux. The Domino script code all works the same when I use NFS. I suppose I could try symbolic links into QNTC but I think I read something about something like that not being supported.

When I saw "Between LPARS with QNTC" my finger involuntarily quivered
over the 'DEL' key. :-)

Yes QFileSvr.400 is far superior to QNTC. Then even more better (unlike
my english) is NFS.

QNTC works most of the time yes but performs worst of the three options
and has the most issues with communications in my experience.

Also brings to mind the customer that was FTPing a file to a QNTC share
but oddly the target file already existed. So they deleted it and then
the source file was gone. You guessed it, it was the same file!

Steve,

I know I sound confused - however, for some reason I've never fully

we have two iSeries servers, one with two lpars the other with three and

connected by way of the QNTC.

We currently have several production applications exchanging data on the
QNTC
between our production lpars. The 'book' recommends QFileSvr.400, but
since my
arrival here, we have used the QNTC and Scott Klement's DELTREE as a
model to
read/write from/to QNTC Directories.

And we do map the occasional Windows server or PC drive on the QNTC.

Thanks!

Gary - methinks you are a bit confused.

QNTC is the IBM file system which allows you access to Windows file
shares from the AS/400-iSeries-IBM i system. FTP requires that an FTP
server be running on the target system, so you cannot FTP files to 'QNTC'
- you FTP files to a system running an FTP Server.

However, you CAN use CPYTOSTMF, CPYTOIMPF or CPY to directly copy IBM i
files to a QNTC share...

My attempts to FTP to/from our QNTC have so far failed.
What Permissions do I need on Directories to support FTP ?
