We are saving the IFS to a SAVF and then

SAVSAVFDTA SAVF(IFSBAK/IFSSAV) DEV(&TAPE)

so

It looks like we can just do a RST from the tape.

If SAVSAVFDTA is used the save file is put onto tape in the exact way a
straight save command would have put it onto tape without the save file in
the middle. So the restores from tape would be just that, restores from
tape.

If the save file is saved with SAVOBJ then the save file needs to be
restored first, then do the restore from the save file.

It all depends on how the save file was put onto tape.

Device for the SAV ro RST would be like
DEV('/QSYS.LIB/MYLIB.LIB/SAVFNAME.FILE')

Normally when you do a RST it looks for the file label like SAV20140809.

How does your example know to look for my SAVSAVF which is on the tape?

Jerry,

Here's an IFS restore example from tape and savf.

RST DEV('/QSYS.LIB/TAPMLB01.DEVD') OBJ(('/www/test')) VOL(001038)

RST DEV('/qsys.lib/mailtool.lib/ifsconfig.file')
OBJ(('/bvstools/mailtool/*')) CRTPRNDIR(*YES)
PRNDIROWN(*PARENT)

When you do a SAVSAVF of the IFS to a tape which is the reciprocal
restore command for the IFS objects?

For db2 object you would use RSTOBJ.

I am not seeing how to handle restoring IFS.
