We don't use long names - we're mainly old school/no school

So, I'm curious, the use of long names seems obvious for ERP
and other large applications - what am I missing ?

(aside from not getting involved until punch cards we going out)

I assume that's for the short system name. What about long names?

(note this assumes you use long names for your tables)

Same here as Paul says, except we don't use X for Index.

Our file names generally end with a P for Physical, Lnn (L01 L02 L03
etc) for logicals.
We've more or less adopted Xnn (X01 X02 X03 etc) for indexes. But
it's not a hard and fast rule-- some indexes use the L1 2 3 naming.

ÐAll,

I'm just curious as to what naming standards if any you follow for
indexes.
