Rob, it is on 5.4.5 now, hmc controlled with SF240_358 MH01085(based on
firmware status screen) So based on the link you sent me I would end up
with ?? The OS side shows RE57163 which is at the bottom of the list.

No amount of PTF's is going to 'slip the lic'. You're best bet is to get
a fresh resave and install that.

Resave information. Get the 5.4.5 NOT the 5.4.0 resave!

The latest resave is "RSF". You're one behind with RSE.

Don't think about it. Order the resave now! Order the latest cume and
all groups now! Whether or not you decide to pursue this course is
optional, but order it now before V5R4 goes out of service 2013-09-30.

How to slip the lic:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/topic/rzahc/upgradesameversion.htm

Then put on the latest cume and all groups. The above step would have
stripped out many of the PTF's.

If you modified any commands, etc you have to change them back. Typical
OS upgrade stuff...

I do not see V5 at
ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/fromibm/os400
anymore.

Do you have access to IBM's ESS to download it?

My firmware level is very old on this machine. Couple of questions.

A) I don't want to update the firmware, so
B) My RSE level is very old, can I do slip the just the LIC
C) Do a savsys of an LPAR that matches this??

or can I as you say.

D) Order latest cume package and groups, then slip it this way even with
the older firmware.

Sounds like the B side doesn't exist and that's problematic for doing
any PTFs! I think you will need to slip the LIC into that machine (I'd
use the latest of course) and then do PTFs after that.
