Hi Kurt,

There was a time when I used FreeBSD as my desktop. During that time, I could not use Rational Developer (or WDSC) because IBM would only make it work on Windows. (Same problem with iNav, too.) I eventually gave up on that battle, and now run Windows as my desktop. This may be why you think I'm a "holdout"?

But, currently, I actually use the RPGsp IDE from Profound Logic (my employer) as well as a Windows version of vim (an improved variant of the Unix 'vi' editor.) I also use SEU for CL and RPG programs, sometimes. I never really used PDM much, though -- I'd just call STRSEU from the command line.

Anyway.. I'd love to use RDi as my main editor... When I first started using WDSC many, many years ago, it crashed all the time and was extremely slow -- but this has been greatly improved. Today, I really like it.

Unfortunately, it's network connectivity is poorly written and very fragile, and it constantly loses connections to my server. (IBM and other says that it's either my PC or my VPN, but I run lots of other software that uses that same network connection, and has zero problems.) Anyway, this makes it very frustrating to use, so I only use it when I need to get really serious with coding -- even though I'd really love to use it.

So I have to make due with the green-screen tools (none of the 4 TN5250 clients I run have trouble with network connectivity). Or with RPGsp (which uses FTP under the covers, which is not susceptible to the same network issues that RDi has) or with PC editors like vim (which use Windows Networking, which is slow over a VPN, but not nearly as buggy as RDi)

In 8.5 I suffered from memory leak bugs, crashing of the IDE, and Content Assist (my precioussss) suddenly disappearing (an Eclipse bug to be fair to Rational). All of these nightmares were resolved which is where I'm coming from in saying 9.0.1 is more stable.

My free trial expired and I'm back on 8.5 until we get our entitled license (long story, was waiting to be set up on PPO which I thought would happen before the trial ran out, but I was wrong).

Scott, I was thinking that you were a PDM holdout for some reason. Or maybe you simply disputed the claims of boosted productivity in the past? Or I'm simply way off mark.

Jon, for 9.0 I started with a fresh workspace as well.

I've found 9.0 and 8.5 to be pretty much identical in terms of bugs and stability. (And, for the most part, in terms of features, as well.)

I have the exact same problems with 9.0 that I had with 8.5, and have not yet seen anything new... so it's pretty much "same old, same old" to me.
