and now

Then I ran
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(VRTCLG) OPTION(*UNLOAD)
and it's back to
Object . . . . . . : /vrtclg/VRT001
Can be saved . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

You can see "Can be saved" with
