While this is not the complete set of rules, the support statement is:

"Power 7 Blades needs to be 01AA730_094 or later; Power 6 Blades need to be 01EA350_132 or later."

I've not done a POWER6 blade but....

Couple things I did notice is that it WILL NOT work across a 10GbE switch. You REALLY should connect to the blade Service Processor through the first Switch in the BC although a secondary connection can be configured.

if the HMC is at 7.7.x but it's not Unsupported, just not optimal (Power5
only HMC's should stay at 7.3.5.xx IIRC).
