You might also want to look at the V7 Info center "What's New"  It has 
sections on various high level topics

Pay particular attention to the Technology Refresh area.  That's were 
significant change happens.  Also be aware that new feature/function is 
added to many of the products, DB/2 in the case sited below with each of 
the groups that are released as well.

information there with a bit more explanation.
