If you are managing your own finite set of servers this is a great option. I would likely use Fix Central but either way getting just the PTFs needed for that system will cut down what you need to download. If you stay relatively current it will HUGELY cut down what you download.

Jim, Pete, myself and others who deal with many customers cannot afford to be missing PTFs so we download the entire group. You never know what you'll find in the field! I think Pete found a V3R2 customer a couple weeks ago!!

For my systems that a pretty current I use SNDPTFORD which builds a custom
set to download. I could do this with FixCentral as well. I use FixCentral
to mainly get the Full Sets like just before I do an new system/partition
install.

I also just use the FTP process, although we order anything new every
two weeks so we always have the latest available in case customers need
it. It also has the effect of cutting down the size of the download
into smaller more manageable chunks.

Rob,

You must be Double Stacking some of them. MY current i 7.1 PTF
stack
is 20G smaller and that includes the Web Query group and the most
current DB and HIPER even though they are part of the CUME. Remember
that several groups include other groups for example the HTTP group
includes the JAVA group so no need to order them both. I do ALWAYS
include all requisites and all PTFs because I can't assume any customer
would be at any minimum level.

Personally I download them with FTP scripts to Frankie and haven't
had
a real problem with that in years. Send and forget. OK except for all
the times that Fix Central is down for maintenance, MAN they do a lot of
maintenance!

I just ordered all the latest cume and groups for 7.1 on media via

download
such stuff.
