The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
Again, I agree with you on this. It is really hard to conceive anything
easier to manage (in this case, at least) than a RI.
At the same time, there are some cases where a trigger can be the only
solution. Among them:
1.- The attributes of the keys are not the same in both tables.
2.- There are already records in the dependent table ("child") that do not
exist in the parent table. This is precisely what we are trying to avoid
but, as you know, these things happen...
3. Last, but definitively not least, the files are not journaled. Sigh.
Please don't let me start on this particular case. For reasons really
beyond my comprehension, many IBM i programmers and Project leaders don't
seem to understand or like journals and are *very* reluctant to use them.
