3583 was fiber attached, 5704 IOP.
I was told that the 3583 would only work with an IOP, Power7 and beyond doesn't support IOP, IOPLESS only, thus the reason we had to replace/upgrade.
IOP-based required, Smart IOA support not planned
These drives will not be supported on any systems after POWER6 (see IOP support planning statement - November 2008).

The 3583 must have been SCSI attach? There are 3583 that are fibre attached that work just fine.
