This begs the more important question as to why would a software vendor or anyone still be using the built-in mail server after all these years ? :-)

There are so many good ways to NOT utilize the built-in i SMTP functionality that I have to ask why wouldn't you use them ?

Especially with Java apps where you can use SENDMAIL. You can use FREE SMTP apps such as Aaron B's RPGMAIL and other commercial products such as our SMTP/400 product if needed.

I can't count the number of mail eating incidents we've seen over the years that were quickly resolved by bouncing emails off the customers Exchange, Domino or whatever else email server.

Much as I love the i, a mail server it's not. At least in terms of the built-in OS support. Check out Communigate or Domino or the open source Apache James server.

You can even bounce outbound emails off of a gmail server if you happen to use google for your email rather than Outlook.

Anything but Mail Server Framework. Ahhhhhhhhh......................... :-)

Rant over :-)

I had a similar case after upgrading from 5.4 to 7.1, however installing PTF's seemed to fix it.

On our production box:

I tried sending email out of a derivative of our Wintouch product, which
uses QTmmSendMail. Nothing gets out, and the STMFs passed to QTmmSndMail
don't get deleted.

I tried ending and restarting QMSF. No change, even with *CLEAR. I tried
ending and restarting SMTP. No change.

I tried grabbing a temporary authorization for Brad Stone's MAILTOOL. It
thinks it sent the message successfully, and yet it still never arrives.

Yet our Code-on-Demand system, running, so far as I'm aware, in a Tomcat
server on the same box (and so far as I recall, emailing out
authorization codes from Java) has no trouble emailing me an
authorization code for our QuestView product.

This is entirely too weird for me to deal with on a Friday evening,
almost an hour after I went off-duty.
