This kind of stuff is quite simple in Python (roughly as simple as PHP
or Ruby, some would say simpler). No porting required: iSeries
Python works out of the box, and works as a "native" i (not PASE)
application. Works very well with both IFS stream files and QSYS.LIB
files.

There is example listener code on the iSeries Python site:

The example there is rather old and rough around the edges, but it
shows what can be done. If you're on V5R3 or later, you can install
iSeries Python 2.7, which allows use of scads of third-party Python
packages.

As for the original question, if we're really talking about making
arbitrary updates to a green screen, not tied to key presses, that I
have no idea about. (Is giving them a browser interface an option?)
