I use the Powerline networking adapters at home as well. I have the
"master" unit (the one that dispenses encryption keys) in the basement and
3 additional adapters in each of three bedrooms on the 2nd floor of our
house. Two of those bedroom units just have a PC attached; the 3rd has a
switch attached and that switch supports a PC, DVR, Slingbox, and Bluray
player. All of that traffic passes back through the master unit to access
other resources (WiFi printers, home server, Internet).

My units are older 200Mbps-rate Netgears and predate the AV-grade units but
I don't have any issues streaming video or doing anything else demanding.
Reliability hasn't been an issue. Mine have a pass-through power plug so I
don't lose the use of the electrical socket for other things.

If you are going to be driving high bandwidth through the link, be aware
that bandwidth claims are aggregate totals like you see WiFi access points
claim. Using AV 500 you have a best-case 500Mbps of bandwidth for the
HomePlug network, not point-to-point.

I use them... if you find the right two plugs to use on either side,
it works great. I had at first some cisco ones but they went out
after 3 years, and now I use a new set by Rocketfish and they're just
as good, if not better, and smaller:

If these are at your local best buy they're worth it for sure. Most
new Powerline stuff is also compatible with other brands.

I run mine from my house to my shop which is about 200 feet away. I
get about 3000kB/sec which is enough for streaming video it seems!
Netflix and slingbox work great.

It shouldn't be any different with an i... should work just fine!
But find the right two plugs by using iperf on PCs on either end
first. Find the best connection speed.

Has anybody had any experience of using Powerline/HomePlug network
adapters (the ones that use the electrical mains ring in your house to
carry the signal), particularly with an iSeries. We're currently renting a
house while waiting for ours to sell and the router is rooms away from the
iSeries. I'm sure the adapter's will work fine, but don't want to spend a
lot of money if they're not going to work or perform poorly.

Thanks
