Thanks Gary,
If I right click Connection --> Diagnostics --> Verify Connection
everything gets a Successfully Connected response.
I tried several other schemas and got the same two data types CHARACTER
and ROWID when adding a new column.
I can run sql scripts but there is nothing about data types in the
resulting job log. The other strange thing is that if I Right Click on an
existing table and select Definition it shows other data types for the
existing columns. If I click on one of these and select Definition it just
shows whatever that field definition is and ROWID. For example if I click
on a field which already exists in a table which is defined as Numeric and
click on the Definition button the Data Types drop down just shows NUMERIC
and ROWID.
I would post some screen shots but am not sure how.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Adam,
Not much comes to mind, but here are some guesses:
1_ maybe something missing on the i server or your client:
What does right-click on your connection/diagnostics show?
2_ maybe something about the Schema you selected
I have tried about 6 on my main connection and have not
been able to re-produce your issue, but...
3_ from run sql scripts, you can easily see the job log of the
host job supporting your connection so maybe you
can see a message in your host connection job log
relevant to your Data Types issue...
On our system, I find the job for my connections
in Subsystem QSERVER, with job name of QZDASOINIT
and a Current User equal my user profile
I did check Paul Tuohy's Programmer's Guide to iSeries Navigator,
but did not see anything Data Types not appearing.
Hopefully someone else will be able to help

Gary,
Yes I am in the New Table -> Add Column tab. I only see 'Character' and
'Rowid' when I click on Data Types. Similarly if I try and amend or add a
column to an existing table I still only get the choice of these two types.
Thanks

subject: Table Definition in System i Navigator V6R1
Hello,
I am trying to create a physical file on the iSeries using System i
Navigator and the table definition option within Databases --> Schemas -->
Tables.
When I click on the Columns tab and the Data type drop down box I only see
two selectable data types, Character and Rowid. This is on my V6R1
partition. On my V5R4 partition I see all of the data types such as
Character, CLOB, Decimal etc. The version of System i Navigator I am using
is V6R1M0 Service level SI42423.
I have attached screen shots showing this. Has anyone encountered anything
similar and do they know why I can only see two data types and what I can
do to see the rest?
Thanks
Adam Mills
