Further away from El Paso? Do they make you stay in Van Horn?

Subject: RE: HP support of IBM Power hardware

Paul,

We use Lenovo's for our laptops. IBM comes out and replaces parts on
those when they go bad (if they're still under warranty). I know they
handle some of the blade centers other related peripherals. Not sure if
they handle the HP stuff.

Then again, the bean counters here are into vendor consolidation. The
theory is that if you put more of your eggs into one basket then you're a
bigger share of that person's basket and you can often get more
cooperation out of them. I've seen it carried to extreme here. For
instance we now pay much more for rooms further away from our El Paso
operations (where we do most of our travel) because we get a discount from
the vendor for other places. And again, unless you're REALLY huge (like
GM or the government) is Staples going to fear bankruptcy if we pull our
business from them?
