Thanks! Removing the battery worked to reset it.

I'm leaving for an (extended weekend) vacation soon, but I'll try some of the other suggestions next week.

This is, indeed, RAID-5. (Not mirrored.) And I only have one failed drive. The system is still fully operational, as long as the dead drive is still in the machine. But, I get frequent messages saying "Critical Failure! Call your service provider now!", which makes the system frustrating to use... so I was hoping to resolve this problem. I'm also using it as a learning experience. Although I'm quite proficient with replacing parts in PCs, I haven't a lot of experience doing hardware work on our favorite platform, so I thought it'd be a good experience.

But, anyway... I'll try some of the other ideas (removing the drive from the ASP, booting a CD to DST with the 'dead' drive removed and resetting the cache, etc) next week.

Just shut the system off, unplug it, and remove the battery. Leave
it off for 5 minutes before reinstalling. The system will think it
is a new battery. The battery life timer will be reset so the
battery may/will fail unexpectedly, but for a toy, well you judge if
it is acceptable risk. You must have something else going on beside
one failed drive.

1. Can you remove the drive from the ASP?
2. Can you end the RAID-5?

3. Are you running RAID-5 or was this drive part of a mirrored pair
and the other drive is already gone?

Just throwing out curve balls.
