It may matter if it's load source because it sounds like when you remove the drive you can't IPL the system.

Since you are RAIDed theoretically you could do a hot swap of the drive using concurrent maintenance. IBM should have decent instructions on how to do concurrent maintenance.

Meanwhile you can determine if the drive is load source by:

STRSST
1. Start a service tool
7. Hardware service manager
F6=Print configuration
F3=Exit
F3=Exit
Press Enter to continue ending SST.
WRKSPLF
5=Display (QPCSMPRT)
Page down until you see an * next to one of the disk drives; that's the load source.
